Lumberjack 20

On Nov. 5 at 1:34 p.m., a terrorist named Major Nidal Hasan attacked fellow soldiers and civilians at Fort Hood, Texas. When the shooting ended, he had killed 12 soldiers and one civilian and wounded 43 others.

Spc. Frederick Greene, 29, of Mountain City, Tennessee, Pfc. Aaron Thomas Nemelka, 19, of West Jordan, Utah, Pfc. Michael Pearson, 22, of Bolingbrook, Illinois, and Spc. Kham Xiong, 23, of St. Paul, Minnesota, along with eleven of the wounded were active CrossFitters in the 20th Engineer Battalion, home to Lumberjack CrossFit.

This workout is in honor of these soldiers, and those killed in the murderous rampage. ~ crossfit.com

FB Gone Bad_DU

This WOD is meant to use 45 lb. dumbbells for the thrusters but the common sub for these is a 95 lb. barbell thruster. Dumbbells are worse. Either way it all goes bad after round 1. This is a motor test. I was reminded today that my motor starts to stall and sputter when I shift out of 1st or 2nd gear.

Not Too Heavy T

This weekend Mark went down to LA to try out for the National Pro Fitness League (NPFL) at the LA Combine. He was able to choose from any of a list of events on Saturday with the goal of being among 48 men (out of 120) and 48 women selected to continue on Sunday in a team portion of the combine. While Mark didn’t advance to Sunday he did set a few new PR’s in the Deadlift, 1k row, and Clean along with impressive performances in several other max rep events (double-unders, C2B pull-ups, pistols, rope climbs, front squat, and farmer’s carry). Congrats to you and for going down to represent and give it your best effort. This was a lifetime experience!

Sam Briggs and Josh Bridges Win 14.5

So this attempt at 14.5 shows a ton of heart and dedication. It also flat out scares me about the Open and just how accessible it is vs. how accessible it should be. Note: This submission thankfully was rejected as things go wrong around the 9 minute mark due to some technical difficulties such as “sunset”. Also the poor guy had to constantly tell the camera guy to back up and film him and the clock.

14_4 Start

Open competitors submit your results! Friday Night Lights was a success even with the longer times and increased logisitics. Thanks to everyone for the the patience and making it all work. This Open WOD was new, unique (the first time an Open WOD had more than three movements) and very challenging. Starting with the row and ending on the rings this gasser drains you one rep at a time.

Next week for 14.5 Friday Night Lights we will have some post Open libations available. Plan to stick around!

Pretty interesting how some knees-to-elbows can mess up your midline for snatches.

This Thursday is the “Battle In Seattle” as the 14.4 Open WOD 14.4 Announcement will go down at CrossFit Bellevue. Tickets are long past sold out and for those who bought tix and are going the doors will open at 3:30pm. Parking is not available on site and you will need to park at 13620 SE Eastgate Way and ride the provided shuttle over. Shuttle runs 3pm-9pm. Wear your SRCF shirt and try to link up if you want. Seats/bleacher spots will be hard to come by so if you get there and have a great spot then keep it and enjoy the show!

All Classes on Thursday will run on the normal schedule. Thanks to Moe and Lindsay for covering! I will plan to have the TV set up in the lobby to stream the announcement as usual at 5pm.

Today I had to call an audible and adjust the WOD on the fly. This one that Sean and I came up with made for a better combo than what I had planned and thanks to Lisa’s prompting helped those who did 14.3 yesterday get more recovery time for the posterior chain. If you log your WOD’s on beyondthewhiteboard.com then the WOD is now up to post your results.
